It’s not a trap. It can’t be. Eva would feel like a fool if it was. Although, she has been tricked before. It seems her kindness is easy to take advantage of. She didn’t necessarily trust Eris fully yet, but something about the child put her maternal instinct in overdrive. Eris also trusted her with the truth at their last meeting, so Eva needed to offer her the same courtesy.

She hasn’t been back to Lilycove since she left. It hurts to know he’s not far away. She avoids the streets that lead home and takes the long way around. It’s a bit longer than she expects but her quickened pace makes up for it. Blade keeps his strides long to keep up with her.

“Hi, Eris. Sorry I’m a little late,” she glances over all the things she’s holding her little arms. Eva offers to take the basket or backpack from her, “You got a lot of stuff there.”

"You really made it..." She murmurs, seeming rather sheepish when she takes the offer up and hands her the basket. "Where we're going is a little out of the way but uhm... if you don't feel safe at any point, you can leave."

She looks to Blade and nods, unable to provide anything but space so he can do as he pleases and thinks as necessary. Then slowly but confidently, Eris reaches for Reiner, resting her hand upon his flank as he takes the lead.

She isn't lying when she says it's out of the way - A minute down the normal route leading out of town soon detouring into the surrounding forest. The trees loom ominously, their branches swaying in the passing breeze and rousing wild critters from their slumber.

There are times where Eris stumbles or slows her steps to reach out for an approaching obstacle, requiring a little nudge from Reiner to correct her direction. But she never once backs down, if only clumsily navigating the uneven terrain and letting out a few peeps every now and then.

“Of course I did. I said I would,” Eva smiles, taking the basket from Eris to help her carry it along the route.

And it is some route.

Eva patiently follows Eris through the woods. Every now and then she reaches out to steady her just in case the weight of the pack and the uneven ground makes her fall. Luckily, she never has to catch her.

Blade follows behind Eva, shrugging the bag on his back to readjust every now and then. Despite the length of their journey, Eva doesn’t falter. Of course, the purpose of it crosses her mind. When she feels they’ve been traveling for an excessive amount of time, she voices her question, “So, what do you have planned for us today?”

Past the midnight's nest, over the logs and down the stream - She seems rather at ease for once, just barely having a bounce in her steps whilst they continue through a gnarled thicket.

"Azalea helped me find a really nice place once... while we were just wandering around. And we thought, well... Just... through... here..."

And sure enough, the tangled branches and rattling leaves soon give way to a quiet clearing, decorating the side of a running stream that trickles and flows on by. Flowers bloom upon the greens, blades of grass whistling in the wind as she steps into the midst and carefully drops to her knees.

"Azalea?" Her voice carries and is answered by a gentle rustling, a pile of soft, green quills sprinting across the clearing and leaping right at her. And Eris nearly fumbles with the catch, the momentum knocking her back just slightly as she lets out a laugh. "You've certainly spruced this place up, huh?"

The Shaymin cries gleefully, the Gracideas on her head blooming as she gives an affectionate nudge.

"I wanted to make a memorial... for everyone lost. For both Rocket and League, for Ruby, for the pokemon... They deserved better places to rest but... this is all I can do for them."

It’s a beautiful clearing, one that reminds her of the place she planted her own Gradciea flower seeds. Unfortunately, they have yet to bloom. Perhaps it too sensed the poison running through her veins, breeding resentment and doubt.

“It’s really beautiful, Eris,” her smile grows slowly into something that may be nostalgia. There was a place similar to this in Kanto that she use to go to near the Ranch outside of Pallet Town. She would lie in the grass for hours, watching all the pokemon come in and out to drink from the stream. Sometimes, she would fall asleep and her brothers would worry sick about her.

“And you must be Azalea,” she smiles down at the small hedgehog, “It’s nice to meet you,” she squats down to offer the pokemon her hand to sniff.

Eris’s pure heart is impressive, especially after all that she’s been through, “I think that’s a beautiful idea, Eris. And I’m sure they appreciate your tribute. Thank you for including me, it’s an honor.”

Azalea, on the other hand, is far less worried about impressions and the past. She chooses to remain in the moment, lifting her snout up to sniff the offered hand before beginning to lick it as a gentle greeting.

"She's not usually this gentle. I think she likes you."

Perhaps, more so than she had any of the Rockets she'd met thus far. Placing the thought aside, Eris carefully climbs back to her feet, Shaymin balanced well atop her head as she turns to look at the clearing.

"We could probably start with planting proper flowers..." Ones in remembrance and not just due to natural circumstances. She looks to the basket Eva holds and hums, lifting Azalea up to view the various options available. And it seems she settles on one rather quick, tippy tapping on the packet as she barks and trills.

The small creature’s tongue tickles her fingertips. Instinctively, she giggles, a bright smile crossing her face as she hold back the flinch that comes with it. She doesn’t want to scare the Shaymin away with any sudden movements.

“What an adorable little creature,” she praises, reaching to gently pat the pokemon on the head. Her gaze rests on the Gracidea flowers that crown its head as well as the seed packet it picks out. It reminds her of the seeds she once planted in Petalburg Woods. She really should check on her little flower patch.

Eva remains knelt at eye level with Eris, setting the basket down to extract the seed packets that the Shaymin picked out, “Beautiful choice,” Eva inspects the rest, selecting a packet of her own, “Do you think these will go well with them? I’m not really known to have a green thumb so . . . “ she’s not sure they make a good pair or are even compatible. She holds in her hand a packet for White Hyacinth, unknown to her that their meaning may be quite appropriate for the task at hand.

"Those are perfect." Humming, Eris lets the Shaymin back onto the ground, allowing her to sniff the soil for a bit as she digs through her backpack. And after a bit of wandering and odd sniffing, Azalea hops on a spot and barks, shaking out her luscious green quills and watching as Eris pulls out a pair of garden spades - One with Woopers and another with Quagsires carefully hand-painted onto the wooden handles, of which the latter is handed to Eva.

As per her Shaymin's demands, she's readily kneeling at the spot and gently loosening the soil. "Oh, you'd probably never believe how we met though, Miss Eva... There was a whole flower bridge that led to a secret garden high up in the skies!"

Such is the excitement of a child who'd been raised on fables, the chance of living those fairytales guiding her rush of emotions. Azalea squeals in agreement, the gracideas on her back glowing gently as she nudges Reiner to help and incites Growth within the sown seeds.

"I think you'd like it there... It's really pretty! And there's a whole bunch of cute Shaymin there too!"

Perfect? Eva smiles in delight at the approval of both Eris and the Shyamin. Eva tucks the packet into her pocket for when they start the planting later and sets the rest of the basket aside. Since they have not found their beautiful glade, the Gallade shrugs the pack off his shoulders and sets it down next to a tree for safe keeping. Eva motions for him to join them.

“Thanks!” She inspects the hand-painted spade, meticulously crafted with the love of artistry, “Where did you get these? They’re adorable,” Eva doesn’t have time (or space right now) for a garden but she’s always dreamed of having one. She follows Eris to the patch of dirt and also begins to loosen it.

Eva only pauses when Eris talks about a beautiful flower bridge with lots of Shaymin running around, “Wow! That sounds incredible!” Eva is sure she’d like it there. She really should go check on her flowers . . .

Quagsire for him cos he gives the biggest hugs and is really nice and Wooper for me cos I like them a lot!" She winces as she smiles, moving over to let Eva at it. "I used to grow a big garden with momma back home... lavenders, camellias, all kinds of fruits and berries. It was the prettiest field ever."

And perhaps, he'd hoped to make her feel more at home by letting her make a space that she desired. Perhaps, he'd hoped to recreate a childhood home for her to make sure she laughed and smiled for as long as he lived.

And yet, she'd thought to tell Eva... How close had she allowed her to get to trust her to this extent?

"Momma liked listening to my adventures... and I always just wanted to be a cool adventurer like her... seeing the whole world and discovering the unknown... but I've really changed since then..." Her hands rest light on Reiner's paws as he helps to pat the soil down, the colours of a rising Springtide gently swirling through the clearing. "So uhm...I'd be happy to talk... about anything... whatever questions or stories you might have... cos that's what me and momma did a lot while we made our garden, you know?"

“I’ve always wanted a garden,” another admittance she’s really divulged, “The thought of growing my own food sounds like fun,” And more sustainable, “I’ve just never had the time . . . Or a home to do it in,” She considered Ever Grande a home for a little before she reconnected with MATIAS SILPH. Their home wound up being beside the ocean, leaving little room for a garden – except the apple tree she planted for Virizion.

Eris seems lost and broken. As hard as Eva has tried to mend the child back together she’s afraid she’ll never be able to, “Eris, you’re very young. You can absolutely still explore the world. It’s never too late,” Eva stops patting the soil to ask Eris a question, “Do you want to talk about her? . . . Your mother?”

"We'd have dragons on the doorways, or flowers and protective charms painted on the walls... And when I got bored, momma would take me outside to help plant stuff." She hums, but a small frown quickly tugs at her lips. "It... helped a lot. With my problems, I mean. I couldn't really make friends... and I'd fight a lot with other kids cause they called momma and pa names."

A problem child right from the start, would it explain why she found it easier to relate to those in Rocket? Not really when you considered the difference in their misdeeds, but it probably helped her to develop a sense of empathy.

"She taught me lots about the outside world because I was scared of going out. I thought I wouldn't be able to make friends... or that I wouldn't really... make a name for myself... or that I'd be left all alone someday..." And look how fate had set her down the path regardless. "She taught me about the legends and the stories people left behind, about how cool it would be to see them or understand the truth of the world."

All those smiles and laughters that had been shared under a warm kitchen light. At least, until they'd fallen asleep on the couch or finally been shooed to bed.

"She rescued Reiner a few days before I was born. Or at least, she's always told me of how she fought a whole army of Gyarados to save him from drowning in the lake. And she used to joke that she picked me up from a Rattata pack at the dumpster a few days after that. So she said that we were fated siblings of sorts, and we've been together ever since."

Eva works in silence, continuing to till the earth beneath her fingers as Eris recounts the memories that surface of her mother. Springtide Storm dances around them like a gentle breeze, coaxing the seeds from their dormant state into small sprouts. It’s amazing how quickly it can work.

“She sounds amazing, just like you,” Eva smiles, taking a break from her planting to look up at Eris. It breaks Eva’s heart to hear the tale. It was the promise of such a beautiful childhood, a thrilling life. Then Rocket stole it. It infuriated her, really. And the doubt resurfaced. How could Eris love them so much? The ones that took that away from her?

Now isn’t the time for such inquiries. Eva know how to read a room, and this is something Eris needs to help feel whole. Unfortunately, Eva could never make her feel whole, but she would try where she could.

A faint blush rises across her cheeks when compared to Eris’s mother. It made more sense now, why Eris had sometimes called her ‘mama’ when she was hurt or disoriented. Eva knew she could never replace such a prominent figure, nor would she ever try to.

“A Rattata pack, huh?” Eva frowns, taking a moment to critically assess Eris with a slow look up and down, “That does make sense,” her lips curve into a sly smile, obviously joking, “I never really knew my mom,” Eva admits with a sigh, “She died when I was really, really young. I’m told I look just like her but . . . I don’t know. My brothers always said she was a lot of fun.”
